For those too lazy to read. Some person who worked at TH (for three years) was fired for giving away a tidbit("Instead, she was fired for theft."). "Giving food away free is against the rules, said Tim Hortons district manager Nicole Mitchell.
"Employees aren’t allowed to give out free products and that’s the bottom line," she said. "She gave out free product and it doesn’t matter if it is a Timbit or a coffee or a doughnut or 10 sandwiches or what."
After the fucking bitch went country wide with her story, TH rehired her as their PR felt a major blow. Comments in the paper from readers said "I hope the manager gets fired" and "Have mercy, manager should lose her job forever".
So I am now lead to believe that Tim Horton’s supports theft and we should do it to their store from now on. Viva La Fairness

I’m arguing that the girl should be fired and the manager should be rewarded. Store policy clearly states that"Giving food away free is against the rules,""Employees aren’t allowed to give out free products and that’s the bottom line,""

She gave the Timbit to a 11 month old child who was being fidgity in her mom’s car. The mom was coming through the drive-thru and the Tim Horton’s worker saw the child throwing a fit and the mom feeling over-whelmed, so she gave the mom a timbit to give to the kid.

Its a 15 cents timbit. Getting fired for the sake of 15 cents is horrible.

Here’s the thing, the pizza shop I work in is really relaxed and management is ok if we give stuff away every now and then. However, there is one employee, who happens to one of my really good friends, who was told that he needed to stop and if he didn’t then he would be fired. Well he got caught again and they didn’t fire him. Now ALL of the employees are in an uproar because they never followed through. Pretty much now everyone thinks they can get away with breaking the rules, and the store has gone to shit.
How does this tie in? How do we know that she hasn’t given food out before and been warned, and this time was the last straw? How do we know that there hasn’t been a problem with the store losing money because employees have been "stealing" by not charging? There may have been other circumstances that made it necessary to make an example of her.
I think it was a bitch move to take it public. Company policies are put in place for a reason, and typically you are told the rules and policies when you are hired...so..
OH YEA, I found the letter S!

No it’s not. For re-hiring her, TH is saying that it is okay to steal providing there is a good intention

First, it would have been prudent to have made a big deal about the fact that the worker was doing a nice thing. That would have made for better PR for the company as the perception would have been that they "care" for/about their consumers and that would have made for increased traffic and increased sales.
Second, now the competition will probably capitalize with a retaliation of sorts stating that it’s imperative to give the customer that "warm, fuzzy, neighborly feeling" and that they would never have reacted so hostilely to a customer of theirs.
Third, profits down for Tim Horton’s until damage control figures out how to make a good thing out of this bad one.

OR TH could just say, specific rules say that stealing is bad. Asking a manager to give away food is acceptable but it is out of a workers power to give away food

All business has to work that way. Your customers are your money, without them, you have no money so always try to think of a way to not scare off the customers.
Tim Horton’s obviously acted with haste and didn’t see the repercussions of the public spectacle that could ensue from such a trivial matter.

TH isn’t the problem it’s that bitch who went to the press.
Options for TH:
#1. Continue that stealing is bad, bring up that no matter who you steal for, it is one of the 10 commandments and is illegal. Hopefully people see their view
2#. Re-hire her and blame it on "junior management". Now saying that Stealing is good as long as it is for a good cause.
Both ways they are fucked
