Aside from listening to that song by The Lawrence Arms, I am going to recount my events from the ever-popular festival show that I attended yesterday with bands setlists and just some cool/comical things I endured.
(Note: I think I did a fairly good job of checking out new music and checking out a variety of different bands. Also, I’m sharing for the people that wanted to see a certain band but weren’t able to, or who just wanted to know what it was like.)

After waking up, getting gas, piling my 4 friends that were going with me into my 1989 Buick Le Sabre, we began to take off. Unfortunately for us, we missed the road we were supposed to take, drove a good while about 4 towns over, and then decided to turn around and come back to my house to where I had to ask my dad for directions. We then finally got into Shakopee (the town where the show was held)thinking we had nothing to worry about...

Well, we did. Luckily for us, a group of kids weren’t thinking, and we got to witness a 3 car pile-up in which some shitty little white Dodge Neon had it’s bumper ripped off, and some group of kids who were probably driving their parent’s Mustang ended up in a ditch, completely totaled. Surprisingly from the 3 cars involved no one was hurt. Then, we all had a good laugh at their expense and how they were just acting stupid talking to each other out of their cars. Up the road was a police officer who pulled over a "murder" (slang word, lol) of kids that were riding between 2 cars. We had our windows rolled down and figured we’d lighten the tension by asking "Hey, are you guys going to the show?!" to which they responded with everything from "Hell yeah!" to showing us their "metal horns" while we joked around with each other getting through the accident site with the cop pissed that we were interrupting him.

So, we get through, and think we’re making our way to the venue about a mile or 2 down the road, but what stops us? A fucking train. Not only that, but it had to back up multiple times for reasons unknown. Listening to the only decent radio station in my car that works on my shitty speakers since I don’t have a cord to plug in my Zune or a CD player, who else is on the radio but Johnny Cash? The irony? Him singing about a goddamn train.

Well, after cutting into the line to get into the parking area due to the long line (by the way, I cut some woman off who wasn’t paying attention, and she had cut me off earlier, so it was basically her getting what she deserved), we got to park my car. We parked at the grassy area because they closed off the actual parking lot at the Canterbury Horse Racing Tracks to house the show since the place is huge. My friend had told me one of the bands I was waiting to see again since I saw them last in March (Four Year Strong) was playing the Smartpunk stage at 11:30. We parked my car at 11:22, and I sprinted through the gates all the way to the stage to make sure I wouldn’t miss any of it.

After reading my escapades of finally arriving (if you even bothered to), I will present you with the setlists for the bands I saw during the day, and will be adding anything I thought was remotely interesting during their sets.

Four Year Strong:
Bada Bing! Wit’ A Pipe!
Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Hell
Beatdown In The Key Of Happy
Catastrophe
Prepare To Be Digitally Manipulated
Abandon Ship Or Abandon All Hope
Maniac (R.O.D./Rise Or Die)
Heroes Get Remembered, Legends Never Die

This is a straight up "Pop-Punk" band that has more "Hardcore" influences in the music, but not in the shitty way or with any terrible vocals like other "scene popular" bands on this tour. With that being said, there were dudes in their 20’s that were going ape-shit. I was up front singing along the entire time, and I got pushed back during "Beatdown", somehow got thrown into the pit, and ended up with a bit of a bloody nose. I don’t usually mosh because well, most people look like douche-bags doing so, but there are some bands where you feel it wouldn’t be fun any other way without people fucking around and just moving along to the music. This was one of those bands.

Against Me!:
New Wave
Borne On The FM Waves Of The Heart
Stop!
Up The Cuts
Don’t Lose Touch
Thrash Unreal

I’m pretty sure Against Me! played a few more, but those were the ones I heard. I had to find where the main stages were after they started and because I was trying to find where everything was after FYS. They were really good, but I was disappointed at the lack of "Reinventing Axl Rose" songs, or even songs from "As The Eternal Cowboy".

My friends were with some chicks and wanted to see From First To Last. I’m not a fan, but I recognized what is apparently the bonus track from their first cd that my friend got in 9th grade, and I don’t think that track is all that bad. It was a rap-rock type deal which is referred to by mostly everyone as "Dead Baby Kickball". Aside from that, I recognized their 2 biggest songs that got them exposure and were played all over Fuse, "Note To Self" and "Ride The Wings Of Pestilence".

After that, there was a period of time where I just walked around, got something to drink (I felt like I was a knife swallower, but instead of having them go down, they were stuck inside of my throat). In the midst of looking at merch booths and still finding my way around, I made it to watch all of MC Chrises setlist on one of the smaller stages before I went and saw Set Your Goals.

MC Chris:
Omc
DQ Blizzard
On
White Kids Love Hip Hop
Wiid
Fett’s Vette

His voice gets annoying fast even to me (which is why I can’t listen to him much), but I do like his style. Plus, I figured I’d check him out because he’s one of the openers at a concert I’m going to in September.

Then it was off to Set Your Goals.

Set Your Goals:
Put Yo Hood Up (Lil’ John Cover/Intro Music)
This Very Moment
Work In Progress
We Do It All For The Money, OBVIOUSLY!
Goonies Never Say Die!
Echoes
Don’t Let This Win Over You
The Fallen (New Song)
To Be Continued
Dead Men Tell No Tales
Mutiny!

They sound a lot like FYS. Most people usually love both, or like one but for reasons I can’t comprehend hate the other. They’re both like the same band, but they sing about different things and have slight styling differences. Besides that, the crowd was almost exactly the same as it was for FYS except there was more dudes. The highlight of it all? These kids opened a huge fucking circle, some dude got down on all fours with his back raised, and he ran, jumped off the kids back, and landed right into the singer near where we were in the front of the crowd, and had the microphone passed to him so that he was able to sing.

We then went to the Hurley Stage which was a good few feet over, and saw The Briggs.
Definitely a band I’ll be checking out again. I don’t know a lot of their stuff, but I do remember they played "Back To Higher Ground". This is the crowd with all of the "Punk" kids who started circle pits like mad.

One of the biggest upsets of the day was not being able to see Say Anything. I was waiting for half an hour for them to come out. Apparently their singer was sick, but we didn’t even get an announcement from the crew or the band themselves. No one came out and said anything (I know what you’re thinking, but no.) After not being able to see them, we went over to the other stage to see The Bronx.

The Bronx:
Heart Attack American
Shitty Future
They Will Kill Us All (Without Mercy)
Knifeman
(A song I didn’t know)
White Guilt
False Alarm
History’s Stranglers

That’s the setlist I found from somewhere else. Much like The Briggs, I’m glad I checked these guys out. You know you’re a band that truly enjoys doing playing music when you come out into the crowd, tell everyone to "Go fucking crazy..." and then proceed to sing and put your heart and soul into all of the energy the kids are giving off in the crowd.

Then, on the opposite stage, none other but Tom Delonge formerly of Blink-182 and Boxcar Racer trying to "change the world" with his shitty new look, his ass-hole attitude, and just acting like he’s hot shit and trying to hard to be a band that can "change lives" and get a bunch of respect from people for doing while ripping off Classic Rock bands and acting "spacey" with 6 minute guitar introductions and random "beeps" and "boops" of keyboards and computer sampled sounds that make everything else almost indiscernible played over electronic drums, or regular drums to a mid-tempo song. This band is called Angels and Airwaves.

Angels and Airwaves:
The War
Everything’s Magic
It Hurts
Secret Crowds
My First Punk Song (Boxcar Racer Cover)
The Adventure

Yes, I know all of their songs because I figured I’d support Tom Delonge being a member of Blink-182. Granted, I don’t really hate him, but I hate how he’s changed so much. If anything, I hate the band and the music, but the people (especially Atom Willard) have very respectable backgrounds for playing music. I realized as soon as their first cd came out though that they are trying way too hard, and they’re lyrics are generic and repetitive.

Finally, the band that mostly everyone on this site is looking for a setlist from. The one, the only, "The Reel Big Fish"

(The?) Reel Big Fish:
Sell Out
Another F.U. Song
Enter Sandman [Brief Metallica Cover]
I Want Your Girlfriend To Be My Girlfriend Too
Your Guts (I Hate ’Em)
Where Have You Been?
S.R. (Including 4 different versions of the chorus. Blues, Country-Western, and Death Metal. I can’t remember the other one right now).
I’m Her Man
Beer
Take On Me [A-Ha Cover]

Calamari said it, and even though I loved Four Year Stong, Motion City Soundtrack, and Set Your Goals, these guys had THE BEST set of the day. They introduced themselves as "The", and they were continuously funny through the entire set. Calamari pushed his way to the mosh pit, while I got up close to the front. I tried "skanking" and ended up going so during "I’m Her Man" with some guy next to me, but that was about it due to how big the crowd was. Besides that, I pogo’ed and sang along to every word. It was ridiculous. Them playing "Take On Me" with everyone holding the high note on the syllable of the word "Two" was the highlight of the day, and it’s one the best covers I’ve ever seen live.

I don’t think there was anything exciting that happened for the rest of the day except for what I’ll mention during MCS, but I only really saw them, and I heard/kind of saw Gym Class Heroes.

Motion City Soundtrack:
This Is For Real
Everything Is Alright
L.G.F.U.A.D.
It Had to Be You
My Favorite Accident
Broken Heart
When You’re Around
The Future Freaks Me Out

[b]This was my fourteenth (yes, 14th) time seeing these guys. They’re a band with a wonderful energy, always have the best sound and song quality, and on top of that are also funny. I will continue to support these fellow Minnesotans for as long as I can. As soon as they started their set, during "Everything Is Alright", the audience in the middle fell down causing a massive ripple effect, which sprad to the damn near back. I was laying down on like 12 guys, with an additional 6 or 7 that fell back on me. Justin stopped the song, everyone got up and uplled each other up, and they started the song over for us to get back into. I was able to get up to the front through people leaving and getting pushed from the back, and I had a fantastic time.

Gym Class Heroes:
Clothes Off!
Peace Sign (Index Down)
Viva La White Girl
["The Paper Cut Chronicles Medley"]
Papercuts [Parital]
Simple Living [Partial]
Taxi Driver [Partial]
[/"The Paper Cut Chronicles Medley"]
Laid To Rest [Brief Lamb Of God Cover]
Cookie Jar
Live A Little
Cupid’s Chokehold

I remember this band being on Warped like 4 years ago with no one knowing who they were. The fact they played great Hip-Hop/Rap with real instruments was so appealing to me. Now that they’ve become an MTV band it’s hard for me to listen to them anymore, and I feel they’re a lost cause having gone to the dark-side of making the same horrible mainstream rap music that’s played on any "Top 40" popular radio station. They hardly use real instruments on their new songs, and it seems like everything is sampled. I’ll see though.

Besides that, I thought it was a fun day. Some bands I wanted to see and was pissed I didn’t get to check out included...

Dillinger Escape Plan (Just for a friend so I could let him know what I thought of their live show since I don’t like them that much.)
Protest The Hero (I just recently started getting into these guys.)
Pennywise (I’m still pissed off I missed their set. I’ve heard it ruled!)

Anyways, feel free to talk about your experiences and stories if you attended this year, or of any other festival shows you might’ve gone to this year!

P.S. Who went to see Lollapalooza?! Please! Someone NEEDS to give me a setlist of what Rage played. I’ve heard the 2 songs they opened with and closed with, but I want to know what’s in between. Also, even though I’ve seen them, post Brand New’s and Kanye’s setlist as well. Oh, and if you went and saw them, Explosions In The Sky and Lupe Fiasco!

for putting that quip at the end in the fucking HUEG font. Either way, anyone that reads every fucking word of that post and tells me what they think will probably equal 5*.

Oh, and apparently I didn’t make it over in time to hear it, but Calamari did say that "Pints Of Guiness Make You Stronger" second, so yes, I ended up missing 2 of Against Me!’s songs.

I hope this isn’t a triple post, but even if it is, it’s important, relevant to the thread, and the thread is mine, so fuck you!

He was on while I was waiting for Say Anything to come out, which they never ended up doing so it was just time wasted.

Personally, I don’t like Shwayze. I’d rather listen to Mickey Avalon, Andre Legacy, or Dirt Nasty. People of the same kind of crew (that know Cisco Adler) and such, or the whole "Dyslexic Speedreaders" group.

My friend wanted to go see Shwayze though. He loves how they’re such a "smooth" rap group and he likes how he’s reminded of California when listening to them.

Warped tour was badass I went to the one at tweeter center its about 10 minutes away from my house. We missed greeley estates because the line was pretty long but right after was probably the best band that day (Pierce the veil). After that we just screwed around stealing sunglasses and shit than went to see alesana which was a lot better than I expected. After that I wanted to see shwayze but we went to see from first to last, the whole day I was planning on crowd surfing so thats the show I did it at but like I was half way to the stage when some fucker pushed me back into the mosh pit and i landed on my head and was bleeding and stuff but just put ice on it after they were done and went to see the devil wears prada. It was fucking awesome they had to stop the show half way throught because some girl got like trampled. There was over 500 people packed into that crowd and like 3 mosh pits. Other than scrathing up my head it was pretty fun i’d definitely go next year.

They’re not my style of music, but I saw them opening for Boys Night Out before and I respect the energy they put into their show.

I can’t fucking stand them. I hate most "Screamo/MetalxCore" bands with a few exceptions.

I’m glad you had fun though. Sorry about your head during FFTL. I’m sure some people tried to be extremely "br00tal" during the whole thing.

Yea everyone like stopped the mosh asking if I was ok and shit but whatever it’ll heal like the sunburn I got that day. On one of pierce the veils songs they started doing their like remake of bleeding love, you can find it on youtube. The only devil wears prada song I don’t like is they do their own version of still fly. And everyone from my area has it on their myspace its pretty fucking lame but other than that they have some good songs. Oh yeah I forgot to say there was weed smoke out in the open alot, some kids right in front of us didn’t mind sharing a couple joints it was pretty cool.

^i asume you were hit^ yea theres a lot of gay mosh pits where people purposely hurt people, a lot of people dont know how to mosh. This one day at lunch the doors were locked so everyone had to wait outside so me and a couple friends started moshing. long story short some kid was kicking peoples ankles and ball tapping people, he then went around telling everyone he started the mosh pit and it was all his idea. Anyway we got called down to the office and we asked who started the mosh pit and who kicked this girl in the ankle so we just blamed him.
I went to live earth and it was awesome. Doopliss did you go to one of them?

This was my third time seeing them.

As I said before, moshing now-a-days is solely for credibilityt purposes. There’s no real surprise element to it, and people think they’re moshing to shitxcore bands. I was on the outskirts of the moshes that happened behind me since I was up in the front for almost every band I saw. I still was freaking out for bands though. Ask Calamari.

I read every word of your first three posts.

I didn’t go to Warped this year because I was in Hawaii with the family... but I wanted to. Now I’m insanely jealous that I couldn’t...

Set Your Goals is fucking badass, I saw them with Armor For Sleep, Metro Station, and the other bands that played that tour...(I don’t remember because I went for AFS and SYG). I just wish they’d actually played Put Yo Hood Up instead of just playing the disc...haha

I’m glad you feel that way. It’s nice to know you read everything. It’s gotten worse, but I still find ways to enjoy myself each year.

I went to that show as well! I only went for SYG though and STD (Saves The Day) because I felt the other bands sucked. I got in for free though because my friend got tickets from Atlantic Records since she does promotion work and stuff, so it was totally worth it!
