Mine, to be exact. I downloaded and installed NOD32 last night after Norton that came with my PC expired. Since I’ve installed it I noticed two things:
1)Explorer.exe is very active, it’s around 64,000 K when I’m not doing anything at all.
2)When I end Explorer.exe, my internet is back to normal. I don’t know why it does that, but it’s not practical to have no explorer.exe.
I googled and googled and found nothing. I also don’t need suggestions telling me to change my OS and any other stupid fanboy shit.

Shit son remember when i told you my internet was slow? I doubt it’s the same reason though mine was purely because i ran out of bandwidth, but it’s all back now.
That’s all i wanted to say, i don’t know why your shits slow, sorry.

Press ctrl+alt+del and select "task manager". Go through the tabs and see what is getting overloaded: your memory, your processor or your network. Then post back here.

I’m gonna play a couple matches of Call of Duty so post your suggestions/comments and I’ll get to it then.

Oh yeah, the internet works decent with Opera. The page doesn’t even load with FF.

get in command prompt and type "netstat -b"
this shows what executables are using up your internets
you can also do "netstat -a" to see who/what is connected to you.
oh yeah don’t include ""

He’s running three web browsers. Kill two of them. Then look at the performance tab. I don’t think it’s his network. I think his processor or memory is getting overloaded.

The netstat b says: "The requested operation requires evaluation."
The other one showed a whole bunch of IPs and shit.
I’m just gonna uninstall NOD32 and get something else.

Also, I normally don’t run multiple browsers. I don’t feel like taking another screenshot. So I’ll post the basics of the the Processes Tab here:
Processes:84 CPU Usage:7~15% Physical memory: 44%
Opera is at 90,000k and something called Desktop Window Manager is at 29,180k. The rest of the stuff is under 5,000k so it’s not useful, I think.
Any last suggestions before I get rid of NOD32?

is your entire system actually lagging or just the connection? or is it just the browser lagging?
AVG is good and stays up to date (and free). you might also want to think about cleaning up some of your background programs.

Found this here...
Quote: Gave it more thought. Download filemon.exe from Sysinternals.com
After you run filemon.exe it will show you what resources explorer is accessing and causing it to use excessive resources. If explorer is using the suggested amount of resources, as you noted, filemon.exe will display those results (most of the time).
More then likely explorer is attempting to access a shortcut or program that you had deleted but the registry does not see that it has been removed and see’s it as a valid entry.
Run a regcleaner to remove invalid registry keys.

Oh, also... Did you delete Norton?
Norton can be a pain in the ass to get out of your system. You have to go to their site and download their uninstaller.

How do I go about cleaning up the programs running in the background? I could uninstall them, but for most of them I need them in the future.
Thanks for the link Dodge, I’m downloading that right now.

I just uninstalled it like normal. I haven’t seen anything from it since I got rid of it,
Since I uninstaled NOD32, Firefox seems to be running fine. It’s just a little slower than before.

Pre=SP1, right? If so, it’s a bug. I have the same issue. I fucking hate Vista and there is nothing I can do but get a new harddrive for my laptop or deal with it.
