i need to get the transformational form (y=a(x-p)^2+q) from a standard form quadratic equation (y= ax^2+bx+c)
the two i need help with are x^2+6x-16
AND
x^2-2x-15.
I think i need to factorise, but i have no idea how to for these cunts.
thanks for any help *waits for gimp patiently*

i think you need to complete the sqare. I’ll help with the first one then maybe you will see how to do the second one.
y=x^2+6x-16
y+16=x^2+6x
*complete the square* (divide the coeficient of your x variable by 2 and then square; add the product to both side)
*6/2=3; 3^2=9*
y+25=x^2+6x+9
*factor right side*
y+25=(x+3)^2
*move 25 over to get it into form*
y=(x+3)^2-25

^Nice He can also use the quadratic equation as long as it’s in the correct format. It’s a "catch-all".

Thank you anyway, but I figure if we can’t help each other out now and again we’re not much of a community.
