Alrighty then, who the fuck understands the movies "No country for old men" and "There will be blood." I just want to see what you people think. I didn’t really get either of them on an extended level.

how do you not understand both of those movies, there both about how corruption can take over the mind and cause people to do absurd things for personal gain. On another level no country for old men shows that hunters becomes the hunted and vise versa as everyone fights to remain alive during the whole ordeal. There will be blood also shows the conflict of industries and religion as they both try to exploit people,in the move there is an obvious power struggle between plainview and eli and in the end industries will eventually overcome religion.

I usually don’t look for deeper meaning in movies unless I really enjoyed them. I don’t have morals, why should my movies have them?

I loved both of those movies but a lot of people don’t get them. I think RodneyKaing gave a fairly good analysis.

I was disappointed in the last two "Best Picture" Oscar awards. Both No Country for Old Men and The Departed were good movies but, IMHO, they weren’t great movies. Compared to, say, Silence of the Lambs and The Godfather, they were second rate. Pulp Fiction and Fight Club kicked both of their asses.

No Country for Old Men was just silly. I haven’t seen the other, it looks much better.

It’s an interesting plot when you get down to it, there is no way you could fit a understandable version of the book into 4 hours or less, thus the not making sense part. There are things you can see in the movie that you actually shouldn’t, which makes no sense...so read the goddamn book.

And by the way, Tommy Lee Jones’ part plays the biggest role in the "meaning" behind the story, his intro into the movie portrays more than meets the eye.

If you want movies with meaning watch Requiem for a Dream, Fight Club, and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

I never saw NCFOM. I did however enjoy There Will Be Blood. Weird movie, but I think Daniel-Day Lewis is a badass, which is why I enjoyed it so much.

I think I just fell in love with gimp. I absolutely loved The Departed, I don’t believe it really deserved best picture though. Pulp Fiction’s my baby (it was his soul in the case) and The Godfather is orgasmic. Atonement was gorgeous, it was original and I really liked that huge "one shot" scene.
