Tradition or Change?
For some reason I am having some problems on a choice... It would be whether to change something that has looked like it has since day 1 or to change it, maybe spruce it up a bit.

hmmm, but sometimes you get know for tradition.

Think about Thanksgiving or Christmas
two of the best days, you can’t go around changing shit like that it’ll fuck up the routine of things!

Thats true as well, it depends in what context you are talking about, as in holidays, yes tradition, but other things, like construction materials Change is important.

I mean should you stick with a logo someone recognizes for a while, or change it to look more...modern?

I would say modernize, however, if a modern logo just looks shit, then then keep the picture/font that people know and love.

Change the logo, if it’s actually an upgrade people will interpret it positively because it shows that you’re keeping up with things.

Modern, in my opinion, looks like "Vista".

If you pay attention, the visual trends of windows tends to affect a lot of trends elsewhere.

Change parts of it but not the entire thing. Keep something major (like the picture of the logo) but change the background and other things surrounding the picture. This way your old customers will still recognize you and the "modernized" logo may attract a wider customer base.
