Okay, so maybe for about a tad less than 2 years, I’ve had my Netgear WGR614 v7 802.11g 2.4ghz 54mbps Router. Just within the last month and a half, it has started acting up and cutting out at random times. This can get VERY frustrating when I am in the middle of a game. I don’t know if the router is just starting to crap out. I suggested to my dad that we get a Linksys router, but being the stubborn mule he is, he wants to find out what, and so do I. I am quite computer savvy, but this one has just got me stumped. If any of you have had this problem before please give me some feedback.

I had the same issue. I had a Linksys router and switched to a Belkin and it works perfectly now.

Well, I have my cellphone but I’m always upstairs when I’m using it. We do have a cordless phone base that sits like 2 feet away from the router.

Sometimes the phone signal can interfere with the wireless signal. But it shouldnt make a difference usually.
I had the same problem too, and i switched to a linksys. Works great.

Yeah, my dad just might buy a Linksys. I’m just totally stumped on this one.

If your wireless phone is 2.4 GHZ it may interfere with the router.
I remember a while ago some kid in my CS:S clan was having problems like that; when the phone went away the problems followed.
You may also want to try updating your routers firmware.

Sounds good. I could just check the Netgear website for any updates?

You’ll need to get to your routers administration page. Try typing "192.168.1.1" in your browsers address bar. If all goes well it will prompt you for a user name and password.
User: admin
Password: password
There should be a menu of some sort on the side of the page; your looking for anything to do with updating your router.
The problem can also be your modem. If the firmware upgrade doesn’t fix he problem you can try giving your ISP a call. They’ll usually ship out a new one for free and provide a box to return the old modem.

Yeah I know how to get to the router page. As of now I am downloading the newest upgrade for the software. I also changed the channel. Everything is silky smooth right now. :D

I was going to say... upgrade your firmware. One of three things will happen:
1.) It will work (yay! no more problem)
2.) It won’t work (at least you tried to fix it)
3.) It didn’t work (it bricks your router and your dad has to buy you a new linksys router).
The_Overlord: solver of all problems. lol

Haha, well It just cut out a couple minutes ago, so that didn’t work. I’ll just ask my dad to get meh a Linksys.
