You don’t need to believe me, that’s cool. Monir and I discussed the transaction this morning, and due to his lack of time (due to other projects), and the mutual understanding that RottenEggs is in some dire need of some fixes, we agreed on an undisclosed price for the site.
Presently I will be using this account, as I will not inherit certain portions of the site persay. I will need to transfer the relevant code to my server cluster and populate the databases before getting the site back online.
I would like to let everybody know that if the site is offline in the next few weeks for a while, this is what is going on.
So, to make this thread useful, I will inform you of some (perhaps objectionable) changes the site may experience:
- R4 will not arrive. This is not saying that I won’t work on R3, it’s saying that the format is fine as it is, with a few touchups. Why replace it?
- E-Mail accounts will not be granted, I run my server farm from an IP range which doesn’t allow me the functionality to run a SMTP server that messages larger E-Mail providers. Thus, current E-Mail accounts will be removed. I will update the reward tiers to reflect this later.
- Account Messages and Watchlists will be cleared. The watchlist functionality will need to be worked on before it becomes available again. Messages will be cleared to decrease the amount of data needing to be transferred between server networks.
- Cash/Gift cards will not be honored at this time. Currently the site generates $43.60/month in advertising revenue. The current server network transfers around 1.5 GB/Day. At this bandwidth consumption, I simply cannot afford to provide members with a cash refund. I understand that members will be upset, and I apologize. Please understand that this compromise will lend to a greater good.
- Level 1 accounts over 3 months old with no posts will be automatically purged prior to the site data acquisition.
I hope that everybody will take this transition serious, and be compassionate towards a few difficulties. The site runs on PHP3 and an old MySQL database, whereas I’m on PHP5.2.9-1 and the latest MySQL. Obviously there are 5cripting differences between the languages.
If there are any questions, bug issues, comments, suggestions, or ideas I’d love to hear them. Either message me or shoot it below.

I will be sad to lose my messages, because I have a fair few that I’d like to keep from back in the day (ie. messgaes from defiler, memorable conversations with people like Motox/Old Shagger, and a few recent conversations too.)
Apart from that I am very happy to hear this news. I just hope RE isn’t down for too long, I go crazy without it! I know you will whip this place into shape, but I do hope you won’t completely change the way things work. Obviously improvements are good but I like the main base of RE, if you get what I mean.
I’m sure one of the first questions on a lot of peoples minds will be:
Are you going to loosen the rules?

Another prospective change:
Because I already work with Bidvertiser for advertising, I will be removing the current advertisements and placing Bidvertiser ads on the site. These ads are known to be less intrusive, and contain text only, not flashing images or pornography.
I do plan on retaining the current moderator/administrator team, and will be adding additional powers to Egg Moderators to remove eggs. The eggs that are not currently in a category will be placed into an "Unfiled" category, which the Egg mods will be able to "refile" into a proper category.
Other changes which will follow my other sites will be:
0 - Zero star ratings do not generate points. If it is bad enough for a zero, then you can live without points.
Down rating monitoring - Users who consistently vote away from the norm will have all of their votes collectively nullified.
Eggs will be "scaled", which means the point to post requirement will be based on your member level. Rewards for higher member levels will entail an "incentive" point addition. This is to offset the minimal gain typical for a higher level account.
Accounts will require certain posts / egg counts to retain their current level (grace period will be given). This will enforce the "power" of member levels by showing what members contribute the most, not which members can rate friends lists the fastest.
A new chat will eventually become available and will auto-elect moderators based on profile statistics and will be logged. Elected Moderators in a session making poor choices (banning members for poor reasons, not banning members blatantly violating rules) can be punished with point removal, up to and including account removal.
Forums will be dropped to Level 1 to post. A time delay will be introduced to offset post quantity, and too-short of posts will automatically be discarded.
Limited accounts per IP address will prevent spamming attacks, as well as proxy blocking during the signup and login periods, thus enforcing IP bans on accounts.
I think the added structure and benefits will help.

Some rules will be loosened, however due to legal reasons, more disclaimers will be put in place which enforce the liability of the content on the author, and not Rotteneggs. This will protect me, as well as allow members to use more common sense.
I will not be adjusting the rules just yet, at this time just keep using RE as usual until an announcement is made and new disclaimers are in place. I don’t want to aquire a site with several on-going law suits, I want a clean slate. Without the disclaimers in place, and currently-banned posts being made, there would be a legal headache I’d have to dig through.
The forums rules will also be loosened up a little. As an advocate for bumping topics for good reason, this rule alone will be nearly completely relaxed. There will be no more "Ban and Warning" thread, nor need for an egg drop group. These will be logged with the following:
- Member banned
- Duration banned
- Reason for ban
- Moderator/Administrator who applied the ban.
Will be listed on a page that will be viewable to the entire community.

I will be archiving the SQL as is. While the site is down, I will be "advancing" the time stamps on accounts for their consecutive days so they do not lose them. As a down side, interest will not be automatically collected for the time that is down. I expect it to be (at maximum) a period of 24 hours.

I do appreciate the warm welcome. Being here since 2005, and waiting nearly 4 years for it :P.
Honestly, I expected opposition. I’m happy to see that everybody can understand what I’m throwing out there. I also hope you’ll understand that it will take some time to do this as well.
As for messages, I may be able to make a reduced version of that...perhaps I can have it drop lower level messages and keep higher level ones. Remember when you first signed up, you got the gretting message? Well times that by all of the accounts on the site. You get the picture of how big that is. Removing the lower level accounts will in effect free up a ton of space, dropping lower level accounts messages will help as well.
If I can ask a favor, do remove the pointless ones. We all know you one the lottery once or twice, just delete ’em.

On YN, the REFERRER is blocked for warez files, so the hosting company never knows exactly where they’re coming from. Technically I’ve heard of cases where people have been sued over linking to copyrighted content...I’ll have to do some investigating before I give a yes/no on a larger site (being this one).

So we are going to keep our current member level, consecutive visits and eggs? Will we be able to delete our own eggs finally though because I want to get rid of two of mine.

That sounds like a good compromise. And certainly, I will go through my messages and delete the millions that I have from notice_bot, and any other shit waste-of-space messages.
Your idea of deleting the non-used newb accounts is great, that alone will free up a lot of space. And then removing the messages from all accounts under level 10-15 (for example) would free up a lot more, while allowing the older members who have given this site a lot of their time to keep their messages. That does sound like a good solution and a great compromise, you are on fire! So many good ideas allready, this is going to FUCKING ROCK!!!

It sounds like our member levels will be re-adjusted depending on our post count and egg count.
Is that correct Toasty? How will you do that? Will you do the same as you did recently on Youn00b, by refunding all of the points spent on upgrading and changing the upgrade qualification system, and then we upgrade as much as we can?
