For some reason, long ethernet cables always fail with my xbox 360, it could be that i was the one who put the jacks on the ends and did a slightly shoddy job or it could be a problem in the cable itself, but on xbox live after connecting and even starting a game, it suddenly stops entirely. I’m guessing the problem is in the cables that i finished off, so if anyone has tips on doing it? (i have 2 extra ends and the crimping machine, all i need are tips on doinitrite.
thanks

Why not buy a new cable. Then the warranty will take care of you if it breaks. Considering how cheap they are it’s not like you’re saving a ton by making your own.

Try buying a 7ft ethernet cable, cut it in half, and splice the wires to the end of your long Cat5e cable. Then you won’t have to crimp at all.

because i’m running the cable through the wall and the only way for that is to have one without the heads and add them on later, AE, I like your idea, i have lots of spare ethernet cables i can do that with, i think i’ll try that.

maybe, you should use the one that came with the console, never fails me,
i get a lot of "disconnected from xbox live" bullshit though,
but i think that is microsoft’s fault and not my connection.
the xbox 360 is just shit in my opinion anyhow, it really pisses me off that it is very hard to navigate through the menus and shit and it pisses me off that you can’t connect a keyboard to the piece of shit
absolutely everything is dictated by microsoft so they can make an extra buck,
i think the extra $100-$150 is worth it for the ps3.
the ps3 makes the xbox 360 look like the retarded step brother of gaming consoles.

Turd is correct, PS3 is really beast, regardless of what deluded fanboys argue.

i am glad you see things how i see them AE, because it is true.
microsoft won’t let you connect a keyboard, but they sell an instant messenger kit, with a little mini keyboard, just to make an extra buck.
On top of that they won’t let you upgrade the hard drive with a regular old laptop hard drive, so they sell shit hard drives for wayyyyyyy more money than they are worth, just to make an extra buck.
sony kicks microsoft’s ass. i own an xbox, but not by choice, and i am not a "fanboy" of any type. i just like technology that is more intelligent made by companies that aren’t nazi’s trying to get rich.
i never understood why bill gates was so rich, until i got an xbox.
everything i have mentioned that microsoft won’t let you do with the xbox, sony let’s you do with the ps3, and you can install linux on the ps3 pretty easily.
so, people, save up just a little more money and go with the ps3.

The one thing that PS3 does retardedly that Xbox does is not letting third-party companies use their Bluetooth capabilities.
Anyway, we got a PS3 for the Blu-ray player, GTA4 and Mirror’s Edge are icing on the cake. I don’t really play video games much because I hate FPSs. What ever happened to the RPG? When did it die?

My previous statement was unclear, neither Sony or Microsoft allow third parties to use their Bluetooth capabilities.

i know what you mean, games now are mostly FPS’s and i like RPG’s, some of my favorites as a kid were:
shining force 2: sega genesis
Lufia 2: super nintendo
I’ve kinda been waiting for some cool RPG’s but all they have now is shitty anime style RPG’s.

I don’t need 18 copies of the same game. I get it; I’m in some sort of elite military force or government agency exterminating hostile aliens. Are we quite done rehashing concepts from over 10 years ago (Half-Life 1)?

lol exactly!
the only FPS to ever catch my eye is shadowrun on xbox 360, i downloaded the demo on xbox because shadowrun on super nintendo was pretty cool.
i was pissed when i saw they turned it into a FPS. but then i played it and it got me hooked, i don’t know it’s kind of different from other FPS’s.
FPS used to be the shittiest games on super nintendo and what not, but now, they are all over the place, i demand some new ideas for games!!

how about an FPS-RTS blend, an RTS game where your elite units (Tania and Yuri in RA2, Col.Burton, Black Lotus and Jarmen Kell in Generals) are controlled by friends playing it as a FPS, you give them waypoints and instructions as well as support and building and there are the other, less good AI units on both teams for the regular units
also, i got the Xbox for Halo3 (my bro plays it all the time) and here there is shitty support for it, meaning i have to wait until i go to the states to get a wireless adapter or overpay for one here. The reason i didn’t use the wire that came with it or any professional wire is, as i previouslt stated, that it goes through the wall to reach a different room. also, my internet connection is 1Mb/s (126KB/s) which, coupled with international lag, is shitty in many cases.
but that first idea, i wish it was done with halo wars, play halo wars on a pc, connect it to a 360 and have 1-4 players control your 1-4 spartans/elites on the 360. if they die, they go to a training ground until you buy another one. (i only use those because they are so well known and easily connected)

i upgraded my internet from 1mb/s to 6mb/s and it only cost $0.01 more a month :D
the only downfall is my ISP is Windstream and they kinda suck, randomly sometimes i lose connection for an hour or so.
