For the people who don’t know the story, I’ll sum it up for you.
Some time like 2000 years ago the creator of the universe rapes a virgin and causes himself to be born on Earth. Then a while later he preaches a bunch on stuff that conflicts with stuff that he had already said long before, so then he gets sacrificed in order to create a loop hole in a set of rules that he created. Then he comes back as a zombie to prove that he is God to some people, then those people told some some other people about it who then wrote it down and expect that to be proof that these events actually happened and we have to believe that it is all true or else we go to hell when we die.
Makes perfect sense

The Earth was created in 7 days, dinosaurs coexisted with man, and all evidence otherwise was planted by Satan.

Dude I feel the same way almost. I went to Catholic school for only 3 years, but after I left and went to public school I realized quickly that there was something seriously wrong with the Catholics. It wasn’t until I got older that I regained interest in learning more about the religion, how it got started, and how it is basically no different than other crackpot belief system that people have held on to for long periods of time.

It would devastate me to discover the Easter Bunny isn’t real.

I love this the most. The idea of blaming things on Satan is so completely fucking backwards that I honestly think you would have to be mildly retarded to ever make such an argument.

Haha, Keiser, I was in Catholic school education from K-12. My first school was K-8, then high school was 9-12. Elementary school wasn’t so bad, as most of the Catholic education I received was centered around the not-so-bad stuff, you know, loving God and others, praying, being nice, following the Golden Rule, etc. High school, I quickly found out, was akin to a Catholic boot camp.
At school dances, we had to "leave room for the Holy Spirit," i.e. no "freakdancing" as the administration called it. One of my religion teachers was basically a nazi in that she said all other religions were going to hell, "freakdancing" was a mortal sin, and that kissing another person was like spitting on a spoon and feeding it to them.
It got old real quick, especially after the copious amounts of community service hours we were required to perform, as well as a certain number of retreats that were mandatory if we wanted to graduate. (side note: The first time I smoked weed was actually on one of these retreats. I was rooming with 3 other people, all potheads, and one of them brought an eighth for the trip. We were on the upstairs of the cabin, so we popped off the screen and climbed onto the roof and smoked a j. It snowed, so our footprints were clear as day on the roof, but we didn’t get caught. Also one of the chaperones was an ex-DEA agent from NYC. It was awesome).
But back to the topic at hand. It didn’t take too long for me to become sick of the propaganda we were forced to study and be tested on, day in and day out. I began doing my own research, and soon I was known as the kid who would argue the teacher about anything religious, my classmates looked at me as the person who would put these teachers in their place.
Also, as I was more and more along in my Catholic education, I became disillusioned with the whole hypocrisy that I noticed within the church. All the priest sex scandals, the constant begging for donations/tithing, the rules of the religion that were seemingly made up on the spot. I remember one priest at my old church (I haven’t set foot in a church for about 7 years now) was friends with a parishioner that owned an Italian restaurant. The owner would always give the priest a free dinner if he stopped by the restaurant. Soon, the priest began bringing 10 or so friends to partake in this "free meal." And they would never leave a tip. Of course, that is just once incident, but I surmised pretty quickly that most of the church was run by these types of people.
By my junior year, I was sick of anything Catholic related, and religion in general. I figured I’d stick it out till the end, at which point I’d be gone from the whole religious thing and not look back.

I’ve noticed that the Catholic Church does a pretty good job at raising Atheists. I was raised non-denominational and could probably count how many times I’ve been to church service on both hands, but I have a lot of religious people in my family, and a great-uncle/neighbor who’s a former minister. Plus, I live in South Carolina, it doesn’t take long to notice the hypocrisy in religious people. It’s like we live in a theocracy down here, we still have blue laws and up until a few years ago, you couldn’t even buy alcohol on Sundays. You can only buy food and camping equipment before 1:30pm on a Sunday, and no restaurants are open. Ask a Christian why this is and they’ll tell you Sunday is God’s day and you shouldn’t work on it. That doesn’t stop them from going out to eat after church, thereby giving restaurants business on Sunday and forcing people to work.
It’s both hilarious and depressing how delusional people are around here. There were twin girls in my high school chemistry class who were major Bible-thumping Baptists. There was some political discussion going on (it’s South Carolina, I was probably the only white non-Republican in the class, and definitely the only non-Christian), and one of the twins stated that she wouldn’t vote (she wasn’t old enough regardless, thank God) for Hilary Clinton because the Bible said women weren’t supposed to be in a position of power over a man. Seriously, it’s the year 2009 and people still believe this bullshit.

I have to say...
In order for us to believe, honestly there should be something to give us proof.
90% of everything to do with religion has been proven wrong by Scientists nowadays...
I mean, Science is winning, and so far religion is looking fake.
I mean obviously, something is there...the universe doesn’t come from nothing?
But, at the same time...It is proven that god didn’t create people...so if god didn’t create people, how am I supposed to believe in the bible? :s and everything that follows... (Because right away, the main point of religion is God created us. That right there, is proven wrong?)
I dunno, were in a day & age where we need proof :P
I am starting to think, originally the bible was a whole bunch of tales....and in the middle ages, the Churchs (which controlled everything essentially) just used the power of "god" to get rich.
I have a lot I could write...
Don’t get me wrong though, I am not saying anything isn’t true or anything...it’s just, nothing is proving it right?
I don’t know, it’s all confusing.

Sorry double post,
But in my opinion, the biggest flaw is.
There is SO many religions, and every religion says there religion is the only "True" religion
(I am not saying, there saying other religions are wrong, it’s just saying only that specific one is right)
Thus meaning, if there really was one god, that created everything...
Why in the hell is there like a thousand different religions? ...

OJ, this isn’t something you have to guess at. You can research more about the history of Christianity and learn that you are exactly right. It wasn’t all about getting rich though, it was about power also, "controlling the people".

and yet Jesus must indeed love me, for I found an R in this thread
serriously though, there are major holes in the story...but you have to concider that people fuck things up all the time, religon being the biggest on the list. Earth was a good idea until God made Humanity
Just the other day I heard some asshole complain about how the Easter Bunny was pagan and that his church was about to split over who wanted it and who didn’t. I had to point out that that hardcore group still made and sold Easter candy despite there dislike of all things noncannon. I don’t remember hearing anything about the Romans handing out favors at the crusifixtion (he didn’t like that comment much).

^those cunts always set up a booth at our local fair, giving free stress tests and shit.
I tried to talk to a guy there about Xenu and he acted like he didn’t know what I was talking about.
Me: So all this dianetics stuff is interesting. Tell me about Xenu.
Scientologist: Who?
Me: You know, the creator of the Galactic Confederacy. 75 million years ago he brought humans to Earth in DC-8s, stacked them around volcanoes, and blew them up with hydrogen bombs. And that’s how humans got here.
Scientologist: No no, Scientology is about healing and becoming a better person. I’ve never heard of Xenu.
Me: Okay, buddy.
Quote Wikipedia: Members of the Church of Scientology widely deny or try to hide the Xenu story
Brainwashed, the lot of them.

Hmm...And I thought the bible had some flaws...
