Look what I found!
It’s an X-ray tube with the High voltage coil still bolted to it! :D
For a while I wanted to make some sort of X-ray machine and X-ray shit in my house but tubes are expensive as fuck. This one here was pulled from a dental X-ray machine which was made in July 1972. It looks like it’s all in one piece but because it has four wires that ran from the thing to...something else which I was unable to find, presumably the power supply and controls, I have no way to fire it up and see if my geiger counter picks up any radiation (which tells me the tube is good) so I’m a bit stuck.
It’s a long shot here but anyone have an idea on what I should try?

I would send you $5 via paypal for the sunglasses =]
Also, how on earth did you manage to find a box labeled ’Radioactive’ laying around somewhere....

I have a bunch of boxes here and I printed off the label.
I put a biohazard sticker on my moms leftovers once. She didn’t approve.

Speaking of which, Our TV station ran a story on local school security after the Columbine incident and my little triage in 2007 got a few seconds of air time (though it was just kids standing around in the field).
Anyways, I’m going to have to find my high voltage meter. I’ll remove the coil and apply a voltage to it and see what voltage I require.

I think (but I’m not sure) one set of wires is to preheat the tube, and one set is to fire it. The wires all go to the two transformers?
I will help research later, after work if you want.

don’t forget the lead apron if you want kids in the future.
won’t you need a lot of other equipment in order to take x-ray photos and make a casing, mount etc. etc.?

Thats cool as piss.
Be safe now.
* Never play with electrical cords, wires, switches, or plugs.
* Stay away from fallen power lines. Tell an adult if you see a fallen line.
* Never use a hairdryer or play an electrical radio or television near a bathtub or sink.
* Before you climb a tree, look up. If a power line is nearby or touching, stay away from the tree.
* Never touch anything that runs on electricity when your hands are wet.
* Fly kites and model airplanes in a wide open field or park—never near overhead electrical wires.
* Never climb utility poles or electrical towers.
* Stay away from substations and transformers (green boxes).

The lead and steel casing it came in is stored outside for now. I’ll put the thing back in it once I can confirm it still works. Also, I think we still have a can of lead-based paint hidden away someplace. It’s over 40 years old by now but hopefully it can still be used.

Lead based paint won’t stop the sort of intense radiation coming from the x-ray source. you’re gonna need some lead sheeting.
Look for any sort of run down abandoned medical facility, as the walls in most of the radiation sections should be impregnated with lead sheets, which you can just rip right off of the studs behind the wall.
Perhaps the dentist’s office you retrieved it from?

1. Quick and Dirty tesla coil
2. Marx Generator
3. Singing Arc (High voltage spark used to create a speaker via frequency modulation)
4. Fatal Taser
5. Linear power supply for a massive RF antenna (Like, turn your neighbors into bacon from the inside out)
God I love high voltage. Oooh, HAARP generator....

I’m going to reject that motion.
I want to see you get this thing working and x-ray some ant hills or something. Fucking do it!
