I just got 2, 12inch Rockford Fosgate punch subs in a box. I believe the model is BTR1312.
Here are some specs on them before I post my question.
[i]12" 3-way hatch back box
frequencye response--35Hz-250Hz
nominal impedance-- 2x4 ohms (upsidedown horseshoe symbol)
SPL(db@ 1w/1m)-- 94dB
power handling(watts RMS/peak)--200W/400W
My question is what would be the best amp to get, or would any amp really suffice...I’m going to be getting a 1,000 Watt incase I want to add more in the future.
So say I wanted to get an amp with these specs..
# 250 Watts x 4 Output
# 500 Watts x 2 Bridged Output (250W x 2 + 500W x 1)
# Dual Variable Hi/Lo Electronic Crossover Network
# Dual Variable Bass Boost
# Variable Input Level (gain) Control
# Power On LED Indicator
# LED Protection Indicator
# Hi/Low Impedance Input
# Field Army Pattern Heatsink
# Multi-Mode LED Flasher, 9 Kinds of LED Lighting Effects Displayed by 24 LED’s in 4 Colors
# Thermal/Overload/Short Circuit Protection
# Anti-Thump Turn-On
# Tri-Mode Configurable
Or something with these...
# Diablo Series 2-Channel Class AB Car Amplifier
# Max Power @ 2-Ohm: 500W x 2
# RMS Power @ 4-Ohm: 200W x 2
# Max Power Bridged @ 4-Ohm: 1000W x 1
# Trimode operation
# Bridgeable
# Remote subwoofer level control
# Line and speaker level inputs
# 0 to +18dB variable bass boost
# MOSFET power supply
# Variable low pass crossovers
# Variable high pass crossovers
# Input gain control
# Input sensitivity selector
# Power and protection LEDs
# Signal to Noise Ration: > 105 dB
# THD: 0.01%
# Dimensions: 11"W x 2-5/16"H x 10-1/16"L
# Factory Reconditioned
# 3 Year Warranty
Would either of those work fine with these subs?
...I’ll post pics of the subs if you want to see them.

From what I remember, a 1000 watt amp with four speakers should deliver 250 watts per speaker.
The more speakers you add to it lowers the output.
So, if you only have those two 200/400 watt speakers
I’m afraid it would burn them up since you would be pushing 500 watts to them each.

Will go take pics now, they’re very nice. Plan on getting new grills for them, and maybe neons. I’ll go take some pics now.

True, then with 1,000 at 2, it would push 500 a piece, but I believe the amps are adjustable at how much you want to push out maximum.
My main concern is with the 4ohms subs and alot of amps don’t mention 4ohms.

I do believe all car audio systems are 4 ohms.
The 8 ohms type is for home entertainment systems.

Most (if not, all) automotive audio systems are 4 ohm. If the amp wasn’t, I’m sure they would mention it.

Having too much power is not as dangerous as having too much as distortion from an underpowerd amp will damage a speaker faster than too much power.
If you are familiar with sine waves that’s what a clean signal looks like to a speaker. Sine waves are what cause the speaker to move in and out smoothly to create sound.
Distortion (from turning a smaller amp up too high) clips the tops off of the sine waves turning them into square wave which move a speaker much more violently and as a result create more heat in the voice coils eventually ruining or destroying the speaker. Not to mention it just sounds horrible.
Just a few things to confuse you further.

Yeah I’m pretty lost, we have 15’s and 12’s we just hooked up in a friends truck using a 750Watt amp, but on the amp you could turn it up and down I believe on how many watts you are putting out?
So if I got the 1,000... could I just turn it down to put out so much a piece? Or should I just go with a 500Watt or something along those lines.

I would go with the adjustable amp.

Like I said, too much power isn’t an issue, as long as you don’t turn it up so loud as to blow the speakers. Too little power will distort as it’s running full out just to get you some volume.
I mean, really, how loud is it going to be, unless it’s for showing off and not just enjoying the music.

Sorry bout that, I read your post wrong.
Not really too much for showing off, but I will have it turned up semi loud to get a good kick... Not extremely loud though that I will be blowing things up, So I think I will go with one of the 1,000 watt ones.... any suggestions as to a good brand or anything? I found some but have no clue if they’re any good.
Or does brand not really matter in this case?

I wish I was as good with car audio as with indoor sound systems.
In my room I wired up 8 speakers to my computer, with a sound entertainment subwoofer, bose speakers, and sony entertainment speakers also. Then the 2 little dell ones, and then from there to the TV i put a pioneer sub also, and then 4 pioneers on the wall.

Can you post links to the amps? What’s the sig/noise ratio on the first one?

The Boss D500.2 will sound the best.
I hate it when people sell things on Ebay and don’t list all the specs. I had to Google several of them to get all the specs to compare them. :-/

Thanks Dodge! alot of the stuff I don’t know what it means.
Like alot of amps say THD: 0.04%
but the Boss one says THD: 0.01%
I didn’t know if that was good or bad, I really wish I knew this stuff.
