I was driving to work this morning and I was listening to 93.3 WMMR Preston and steve show (NJ and philly radio station)

They do this thing called to the dumb question and you call in to answer it and if you get it right you win a prize

The question was what continent has no owls (it really is a stupid question)

i called in, and had to hear one guy say it was Australia(fucking retard)

Then i got on, told them it was antartica and i won!

Im getting battlestar galatica season 4.5

ive never watched the show, but i dont care because its free!!!

so anyone got any stories about callin in to a radio station and winning some shit?

^Same here. Everything on the radio is usually crap. Although I will listen to public radio sometimes because there is good stuff on there every so often.

I never won anything personally, but my friend’s sister won a shitload of tickets to the KDWB "Jingle Ball" which is basically a concert around November/December with a holiday theme and they usually get the bgigest acts at the time.

We didn’t really like any of the bands, but as you said, we didn’t give a shit because his sister bothered taking us when we were a bunch of stupid middle schoolers to hang out with her and her high school friends.

um well about a week ago I realized that every morning at the same time the station I was listening to would air a commercial for "win a table for 4 to the comedy caravan. be the next caller". So after hearing it for a week I said wth and called in while I was waiting for my coffee in the McD;s drive through. They said congratulations! you are a winner. I said sweet. Then i had to pay and I sat the phone down, when I picked it up they had hung up. :/

In 1992 or so, my friend won a CD single of Terri Nunn (I think) performing "Take My Breath Away," the love theme from Top Gun. It actually contained the original recording from 1986 or so, and a remixed techno dance version from 1992. Since we were allowed to leave school during lunch, we went to the Sumiken Building, a 15 story office tower which also housed the radio station’s offices, and picked it up. They asked for identification, then forked over the CD. He let me have it, as his family didn’t have a CD player, and his mother was convinced popular music was the language of the devil. He was later discharged from the United States Army when he broke his ankle during basic training, having broken that same ankle at age 16. Growing up white trash, he spent the rest of his life pursuing trophies, like cars he couldn’t afford, in hopes of showing the world how far he’s come. I might still have that CD. I can count the number of CDs I’ve ever purchased on one hand, and count the number of songs I’ve ever downloaded by making a fist and saying "zero."

In the early 1990s, Cheap Channel Communications of San Antonio, Texas, was beginning to build their empire. KHFI-FM in Austin was one of their first acquisitions. They got it at such a cheap price, KHFI-FM actually held the record for the most money lost in the sale of a radio station, though I’m sure that record has been broken.

Forward to today: I have seen the future of radio, and it is cheap. For instance, Cheap Channel operates 6 radio stations, mostly automated, in Wheeling, West Virginia, with a total of 22 employees. That, and the general manager also oversees three or four stations in Parkersburg. I’m glad I didn’t get the idea to pursue radio as a career.

Got the lifetime Sirius sub5cription in late 2005.

Got some Rise Against tickets once.
Also got some circus tickets as a kid, as well as a clock radio, which I didn’t notice the irony in until just now.
