Okay well the past few months I’ve started smoking cigarettes. I started because I was too stressed and a friend told me smoking can help with that. It does help a bit but I have a few problems with it:

For one, I’m not a big fan of the smoke smell and have to be careful so as not to get bitched at by my family for smoking. Second, most of the girls I know are turned off by it so the chances of me getting with any of them while I’m smoking is slim.

Because of the above reasons I was thinking about trying Snus. I don’t know anybody who uses it and was wondering if any of the members of RE have tried it. If so, tell me if it was any good. All opinions are welcome.

I’ve tried it twice. It didn’t seem like anything on the first try, but on the second try, it made me lightheaded, and I didn’t feel too great after. I don’t smoke though.

One of my buddies uses the stuff all the time.

Yes I have tried it.
It is horrible!
I would rather chew chewing tobacco that that stuff.

BTW, If you haven’t been smoking that long, you should be able to stop fairly easy.

Its not so much that I want to stop. I know I can stop given that I only smoke seven or eight a day (usually when I get home from school and right before I go to bed). It does help to calm me down (I’m constantly stressed or "high-strung") and I like that so I was checking into other ways to get that affect without smoking.

Maybe a good shot of Scotch whiskey would work.

Lol the Irish in me agrees but the Irish in me also feels the need to down more than just a shot. Alcoholism has run in my family for generations and I’ve already had some issues with it so I need to be very careful. Plus, I need to be level-headed enough to be able to do paper work, read, and do other school related stuff.

I’d get a plug of tobacco and just go for it. Chew it just right, and when you spit it looks like the inside of an oil pan :D

Ok, I have no idea what "snus" is so I can’t counsel you regarding that.

However, as I have suggested to others in the past (and apparently it works once in awhile, too): Try cigars. Instead of smoking several cigarettes a day, start a cigar in the morning or whenever it is that you start puffing. Get decent quality cigars that don’t stink. Limit yourself to one cigar a day.

I start one in the morning and then let it go out, and maybe take a few puffs during the course of the day, and then if I feel like it, I finish the cigar while I’m going for my evening stroll. I usually smoke my cigar outside, too, unless the weather is super shitty.

This way you can kinda have your cake and eat it too, because you can enjoy tobacco in moderation without having to quit smoking entirely, and you and your house won’t stink like cigarettes.

As for "snus"--I looked it up and GROOOOOSSSSSSS!!!! is all I can say. I would not use something like that to quit or cut down on smoking.

Anyway--good luck. xoxoxo

I smoke, but with a lot of recent stress myself I had to find something extra to vent the stress. My solution? An elastic band. I normally have one around my right wrist now, and if I get stressed or angry I pull it out and let it snap back against my skin. I started off just to see if it would help control stress and anger, and now I’m addicted. I always put one on my wrist in the morning at work and take it off at night when I’m close to going to bed. I have.... 15 sitting on my bedside cabinet at the moment. Even when you’re not particularly stressed it gives you something to do with your hands (which will be good if you need any help stopping smoking) and can be fun to play around with.

I use them that much now that a colleague tried to (jokingly) ban me from them as I kept accidentally snapping them in fits of anger and they were pinging all over the place, lol. (well, half the time I was pinging them at people on purpose, heh heh). And they have told me that they will be getting me a bag of elastic bands as a leaving present when I leave at the end of next week, lol.

Give it a try.

That, or cocaine. I hear that’s good too.

Work out. I get high strung and working out mellows me out in a good way. Especially lifting weights. I sometimes have such a stressful day and then I lift weights and my muscles release some chemical. I guess endorphins? Anyway, I feel calm, relaxed, high and good about myself.

Start slowly and don’t over do it. I hate cardio but I do push myself to do some. I prefer the weights as I get a better endorphin (or whatever it is) release. I go 6 out of 7 days a week to the gym. You might like cardio better. I really wish I had discovered this about myself when I was in high school. Instead I smoked cigarettes for 15 years. Wasted time. Wasted money. Wasted opportunities.

Good girl! Cigars are so chill. I only smoke them when I’m drinking though, which is hardly ever. :(

I suppose there’s no need to tell me in email now :P
Actually, cigars have very VERY low nicotine content. Much lower than cigarettes.

I work out for at least half an hour every day. usually I lift weights (have a bench in my basement) and run sometimes when i have the chance. I have sleep issues so I’ll usually go for a jog in the wee hours of the morning while everything is quiet outside. I also do the rubber band thing and have for several years. I think that its usefulness wears down after a while.

I reccomend Chivas.

Smoking is worse than drinking, in my opinion.
You could always try not being a pussy and deal with lifes problems without substance abuse though.

The early morning beats all other times of the day.

I wake up at 4:30 AM every week day, and go straight to the gym. It’s really nice not having to worry about working out later, and there’s also hardly anyone there. I see a lot of the same people there everyday.

Wow. Have you tried anti-depressants? Tell your doctor about your problems, and ask for allight dosage at first. they can do wonders.

Honestly, I completely agree with you and did that for years. I’m seventeen now and have been having issues since I was twelve or thirteen. Its been getting progressively worse though and its been harder and harder to handle.

I went to a psychiatrist a few years ago and he prescribed me some type of anti-depressant (its been a long time and I can’t remember what they were called). It just made things worse and made me suicidal so I’d rather not try that again.

Fuck snus, because you actually swallow the spit, your rsik for pancreatic cancer goes through the roof.

If you gonna use tobacco, use redman (chewing tobacco) or skoal or grizzly (mouth tobacco, non-chewable)

Its more discreet than smoking and doesnt stink, and if you use skoal and get a good flavor, your breath wont even stink.
