Assuming I do get a computer, I won’t know what’s on or in it until I get it back home, so it could either be a swing and a miss or a diamond in the rough.
But do tell. What programs can I expect to run? Can I get some old version of IE for it? Internet isn’t necessary at all on it, but it would be a convenience.
Any other help would be great, the only OS I’m familiar with is Vista, and I have never used old computers.
To be honest I’m probably only going to read responses from Shai, Dodge, AE, and Pentium. If you don’t have some good knowledge on the subject don’t bother posting.

My dad used to be a computer technician before he started mixing music.
Then he started working in some telephone company, so if I ever need any tech help, for my PC or my guitar setup, he can fix it.
Fuck I love not having to do anything myself, ever.

Oh, it was just saying how I was going to be looking for an old computer at Goodwill. Don’t really need a link, that’s the basic concept.

You can run firefox on windows 98. Lots and lots and LOTS of games are availible for it, mostly free by now. its easy to run, manage, clean up, etc, and the operating system itself has a tiny footprint and uses very little ram.

You can run lots of programs on it that are "For xp only" too. The only way to figure it out is to try and install it. the reason is, most of these programs aren’t actually affected by the switch from Fat over to NTFS, and so they will run. Even then, some programmers chose to make them ONLY work for XP, for some stupid reason, even though they would work perfectly fine on 98.
