I was just wondering what everyone thinks about the arts programs being cut from schools? To me its fucking ridiculous that theyll cut music programs and keep shit like foods classes. And they can pay for school renovations and shit. Now, im not even in school, but its still fucking ridiculous to me

Neither is it happening where I live. If anything, the music program is bigger than it has ever been

Both of those have been going on for awhile. It only happens at schools where they care more about one certain thing then another. Fortunately for our school, our band program is pretty well known, so it’d be impossible for them to shut it down since it brings good exposure of our school to others.

I have never heard of a public school cutting any program. They’re subsidized by the government, they’re not paying for it, so why shut it down?

This is very unfortunate. It’s my personal belief that a good rounded education includes a little bit of everything...math, science, English, a foreign language, social studies/history, music, art, phys. ed., and some sort of comunity service program.
This is not a problem at my school, however. We have a very good music program, which I was fortunate enough to have taken advantage of. The problem in my district is the teachers don’t have contracts and are doing all they can to get them. This includes "sick days" where so many teachers plan to call out sick that there aren’t enough substitute teachers to cover and it shuts down the school.
