What’s the pope for?
Why do catholics worship him so much?
From my perspective, it seems like they care more about him than Jesus. Why is the pope so special?

He’s the leader of the Catholic religion and Christians everywhere, chosen by God himself (although he’s elected by other old guys). He’s like the living icon of Catholicism.

Yes, Catholics believe the Pope can talk directly to God. Prayer is different.

My friend now hates the Pope because the Pope’s arrival took up some valuable TV time during his favorite show.
And you hear shitloads about the Catholic Pope, but what about the Orthodox (I think) Patriarch?

And no we don’t believe he has some special ability to talk to God.

anyone who believes in the tower of babel should be institutionalised...
people tried building a tower up to heaven (struturally impossible to build one to the upper atmosphere with today’s technology, imagine back then), and god feels threatened, he doesn’t feel that they’re all fucking retards and watch them phayle, he atctually reacts...
if one story in the bible is put under doubt, all can be false...
religion can be funny, until someone gets blown up for 72 virgins...

A long ass time ago, back when Jesus was walkin around, he gave a dude named Peter the task of continuing the ’Church’. we can look at the church as a network of believers who are all on the same page, i.e. all following the teachings JC.
Well Peter saw it fit to keep a dependable person in charge of the church and thus decided that his position should be filled when he died. Peter was what we consider the first pope. he was the mortal figure head of the church, that others could turn to for guidance and console, as were all successing popes to come.
the church is run similar to a monarchy, you have the pope at the top, under him are arch bishops and bishops then you get lower down to the priests, brothers, deacons and lay people. when a pope passes away the highest ranking bishops are charged with the task of selecting a new pope from amongst themeselves; an extrememly private procecess which can take weeks some times.
don’t judge me by what i know, i was raised my whole life in a big catholic family, went to catholic school etc. just trying to drop some knowledge off. fuck religion btw, it’s all fucked up. :D

penguin, i feel your pain, my dad is cool about religion but some ppl in my family aren’t. i was in a catholic school when i lived in the states, it suked, i phayled religion class even tho i got 99 on the exam lol
now im enlightened and deided to stick to agnosticism...
