So I have been doing some thinking lately and I pretty much have come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as true happiness. This might sound "emo" or depressed or whatever but its not meant to be like that, think of this as a philosophical discussion about the topic happiness. Anyways so the reason I have come to this conclusion is that just about everything that we as individuals perceive to make us happy is really just a falsehood. The things which bring joy and happiness to our lives are simply more likely to be negative than positive. Some examples that have been pondering include say Drugs, they make you feel happy but in the end leave you fucked up, broke, and probably addicted. Or say relationships, they can bring the highest joy ever experienced but in many cases end in despair and heartbreak. Or say wealth, something that is almost worldwide used to judge happiness and success. Wealth is the biggest falsehood of them all, the richest people in all reality are probably some of the most sad pathetic people out there. And even so happiness is not had through any physical means, nothing on earth can bring you true happiness, not presents, not love, not money, not power, not anything.
Seriously, I want someone to explain to me how they feel that they bring happiness into their life. A true flawless way in which any person can bring happiness to their life does not exist. Religion also for example is a means in which many find peace and happiness. Religion is a huge falsehood, now I know this statement may be very offensive to some but look at the facts. Some of the most heinous and horrid atrocities have been committed by those driven by religion. Even those who practice religion in a more modern way can never be happy. Those tied down to a specific faith are still left with a head full of unanswered questions and underlying doubts. The truth is not a single person can be sure of what happens after this life, and to take comfort or happiness in a fictional story or set of ideas is no way to bring true happiness.
These are my feelings on the topic of happiness, I would appreciate your input and how you individually bring about happiness to your life. Do you feel that happiness can be achieved? Is happiness real or just perceived?

That did sound fairly morbid.
Relationships, can lead in heart ache, but that is what defines us humans and who we are.
If you just feel happiness all the time.. it wouldn’t be normal nor human.
You can be content and "happy" with your life but true happiness? I think it’s possible.
I don’t tend to think to deeply into these sort of things, I just enjoy what I have in my life atm and make the best of it.

I’m not sure I understand what you mean by true happiness. We talking nirvana, enlightenment, that kind of spiritual shit or what here, Snoopy?
You have to know and feel something horrible to know and feel ecstasy. Material possessions can bring happiness. It’s the contrast of good and bad. If you grew up hard with no christmas presents and on your 16th birthday you got a new bike or something you really wanted you’re fucking happy. If you grow up with a new bike every day you might get pissed off when you got a new bike for your birthday.
Excuse the cliche, but it’s all relative. It’s human nature to have ups and downs. Happiness is entirely based on change. Without physical change psychological change is difficult. Not impossible, but difficult. I’ve gone through stages of pure bliss, like I knew why everything was like it was, I understood what was going on in peoples’ minds, didn’t have arguments, good things happened, I was happy. It was strange and I couldn’t think of anything that would have stimulated a difference like that in myself. It went away and I seemed to go back into adult-mindedness.
Ignorance is bliss. I think it was Wordsworth who wrote about how much fun it is to be ignorant, fun for the sake of fun, not understanding why. He also mentioned being older and wiser and looking back on such a time and feeling just as great understanding why it was so great back then. Two forms of happiness brought about by change.
Although keeping up consistent good changes might make it impossible to sustain happiness without the contrast of bad changes.
It’s 1am and I’m rambling, goodnight.
Hey, maybe true happiness comes from understanding and accepting you can never be truly happy...Although sex is pretty good.

If you take any of those things that you mentioned to any extreme it will be emotionally taxing.
Moderation is the key, try not to get too carried away in either direction in whatever you do.

happiness to me is indifference to death. Being confident enough in your current mental state to not fear the uncertain. I believe happiness is a choice ultimately.

We ourselves tend to make life too complicated. On this earth we have this life to live. Take each day one day at a time and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Family and friends help fill the void that you may feel. If not, do what I do, stay wasted. Just kidding!! Relax, it will be ok.

I have experienced brief times of happiness. I sometimes wonder if happiness follows a sort of emotional "third law of thermodynamics".
BTW, Happiness was a really fucked up movie.

Micheal Jackson???
Any way I too think that there is no such thing as "True Happieness" because nothing in the world is allways hunky dori all the time... imagine if you’re a Bower bird you got your nest on hte ground nice a pretty for the girls and some prick destroys it, and I’ve allways thought the same thing as TommyBoy, as humans we’ve developed a sence to make every thing complicated e.g. Governments, Laws, Tax ect and it’s those things that make life difficult.
Also things depend wether you’re ugly or pretty cause it is a fact that people associate good things with good looking people, so if you are really ugly your life is probably going to be shit... I think I’m getting a little off couse right about now so I might stop.

Many people have written over the top of
a seemingly underlying fact about modern
life: the end of a happy day can be judged
as one in which nothing bad happened.
Lately I have felt this way – I’ve had a
good day when I can place my head on my
pillow and feel contented that nothing bad
happened.
And as for wealthy people being happy?
They are sad depressing people to begin
with. When they get that extra dollar from
someone, they do not feel remorse for
having taken more than they need. No, the
money hungry people are often satisfied
but never happy which leads them to
continue their pursuit of more money.
Some people are extremely wealthy only
in the fact that they are millions of dollars
in debt. Elton John for example.
Colin Fiat.

In a nutshell you cant have the bad without the good.
All the bullshit is what makes the happiness all the more sweeter.
And yes happiness IS a choice.

Banning arrogant fucks like this brings me happiness. Now, I’ll continue reading from that post and put something a little more intelligent down. Really though, I do enjoy it.

Whether you’re American or not, you’ve surely observed when people stop spending money they haven’t yet earned on useless shit, the world’s economy collapses. Tae some time to read this article, an interesting take on the history of our consumer culture. There’s a reason President Bush said, in so many words, "There’s a war on--go shopping" in 2001. I know the article’s long, but it’s written on an 11th grade reading level. You’ll get through it. I promise.
The consumption game is rigged against you from the onset. You can dutifully pay the mortgage on your quarter-million-dollar particle board palace for years, only to find you have no equity in it, and can’t even sell it. The bank that holds your credit card has been sold to another, which promptly raised the interest rate to more than 20 percent. Good luck paying that balance back. Each year, your taxes will be raised, or the price of essential utilities and fuel will be raised, sometimes both, taking away any gains you might have made.
As an adult, you’ll knock up some girl, marry her, and family obligations will supplant your pursuit of happiness and enlightenment. She and you will work long hours to keep the house, and pay off about two years salary’s worth of student loans. And for what? So you can race home after sunset, slam down some heart-attack-inducing combination of fast food or reheated frozen entrees, put a Blu-Ray copy of Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo in your huge plasma television, sink into the theater seating, most of which is never occupied, and doze off 30 minutes into the screening? Knowing your spouse and child(ren) will grow to hate you? I know it sounds far-fetched, but I’ve seen it happen, time and time again.
One difference between a four-year-old and an adult is the adult is familiar with the idea of delayed gratification. I guess that’s my point. And don’t bring children into the world you can’t afford. The world has enough children. You’ll have less stress, and be happier for it.
I own my house free and clear. It’s liberating to know that, when I’ll probably be laid off sometime this year, I’ll still have a place to live. Can you imagine what would happen to today’s world if everyone lived in a 100 year old house, drove a nineteen year old automobile, took up the U. S. government’s offer on coupons for digital television tuners, and seldom saw more than one or two movies each year?

By the way, that last post was brought to you by my ten-year-old Pentium II shitbox with Windows 98 first edition, and the copper wiring to my dial-up provider.

Unfortunately, the employment system is stacked against workers for working shorter weeks for less pay. Health benefits at many companies are only paid to those who work 35+ hours per week. The quickest way to unrecoverable poverty is unpaid medical bills: most especially with the new bankruptcy laws.
I also notice the high paying jobs are only available to those most willing to sacrifice their time. Most companies aren’t happy to just have the average worker put in their 40 hours, now they hire "professionals" for a 40 hour week on paper but expect them to donate 10-20 hours as proof of their loyalty to the company.
