After reading that post on Denver legalizing the private use of pot, do you think it is a matter of time before more cities do the same? How long do you think it would take for marijuana to legalize in the U.S. as a whole? What is your arguement and how do you back your opinion up? I think everyone know booze is more harmful to the human body than weed can be and the fact is no one has ever died in history directly from weed. One reason I can think of that the government wouldn’t legalize it for is because, where they could distribute weed retail and tax it, they couldn’t tax the growing of marijuana. As we all know, marijuana is fairly simple to home-grow as compared to other plants, and how is the gov’t going to justify taxing a farm or home garden? Well now that it’s out there, let’s hear what you have to say about this and when do you think weed will be legalized, if so?

That’s a good question. I think it will be a long time before it’s legal all over, simply because there are some states who just WOULDN’T HAVE IT, like Texas. Probabaly in a decade or so. My only concern is that when it’s legal it won’t have the taboo previously associated with it. Without the element of possible trouble rush, will it be as big of a deal. I think for the people who use it for the effects still will, but the people who do it because it’s illegal or to be popular won’t. On the other hand, when it’s legalized marijuana will have no black market value, thus severely cutting the price, possibly appealing to more people. Notice I used "when" instead of "if", because the day will come.

Legalizing it would be a great way for the government to cut back on drug trade which money inevitably aids terrorist activity. And you’re right, to alot of people, legalizing weed would make it lose momentum, I know that some people would be able to relax and enjoy it more however.

I think that it is only a matter of time. People are finnally getting pissed off that the government is paying billions of dollars imprisoning people for pot. In 8-10 years it will be legal everywhere, garanteed.

Yea not anymore but the risk use to be a big part of the fun for me, plus if it is legalized dealers are gonna be hit hard. And we all know of smokers who give the rest a bad name. Doesn’t matter either way to me I’ll keep smoking just as I have if its legalized.

it would be a lot better if they decriminalized it (denver, canada). that way, they cant sell it (it would be good weed, but way too expensive and it would become the mainstream, so it would be hard to buy other weed) and if we get caught with any weed, it would only be a fine IF we have more than an ounce. in my opinion, decriminalization would be the way to go.

Ny laws are considered to be "decriminalized" All that means is that possesion of under an oz will be a misdemeanor and will only esult in a fine of anywhere from $0-$100

I wish this place would live.

Then again I wish we lived in a society where legalization was even possible. I don’t know how many times I’ve written about it, probably at least 3 essays now. Right now it’s not going to happen in the US. The state of the government and the fact that weed is still taboo in our culture prevents us from really moving forward. Decriminalization is entirely plausible, but flat out legalization is still a long way down the road.
