Okay, so the issue is this: none of my long BBQ lighters will work in even a no-wind situation consistently, so I often find that I have to use a Bic lighter. I recently got a really bad burn on my thumb that blistered from the fuse sparking back at me. What is the best fuse to use in my fireworks in the future in order to avoid this blowback? I would like 6-12 seconds per foot burn time, if possible.

While I am making a topic, I figure I will ask something I also need to know- What chemical should I use for a mortar launch charge?

duuuude, if you’re gonna be using fireworks or other pyrotechnics, invest in nichrome wire. it’s most commonly used to ignite model rocket engines. a little bit of that hooked up to as long a wire as you want, then hooked to a 9 volt battery=safe and easy ignition.

background: nichrome wire gets red hot when electricity runs through it...you can buy some premade things, but they’re relatively expensive for the amount you get. you can also buy spools of the wire online, then make your own igniters. you could also get real into it and hook the battery up to a switch, or make multiple switches so you can ignite more than one at a time.

forgot to add, sometimes the situation calls for a delay between the time you push the button and the ignition...if so, just take the tip of your nichrome igniter, and jam it into the end of some visco fuse, little bit of tape to make sure it doesn’t fall out, and you’re good to go.

Yeah, I was experimenting with nicrome a while ago, but kind of got turned off to it after I tried mix to the chemicals to make one of those igniters at home without using any anti-static spray. I still can’t hear as well, or grow hair on that part of my arm.

Oh, plus no one ever told me not to mix the pyrogen wet.

Well, does anyone have an answer to the mortar question?
