I was screwin’ around with my friends outside today with a CO2-powered BB rifle when we decided we wanted to blow something up. We had no idea that what we did would work nor how dangerous it actually can be.

The following is a semi-cheap way to create a bomb with minimal light but with great amounts of heat and pressure.

Materials:
2 oz. to 4 oz. Compressed air catridge (preferably CO2, such as you would by in a sports or gun sporting store, in a metal catridge/container)

A cup (preferably steel, as I used, or a hard and durable plastic)

Gasoline

Pellets

Matches

A piece of paper

Process:

1. Fill the cup half-way with gasoline (usually only 2-3 ounces)

2. Drop the pellets into the cup with the gasoline

3. Place however many compressed air catridges you may like into the cup (we used one and had a great result)

4. Roll the piece of paper loosely and place it vertically into the cup.

5. Light the base of the paper (but before the gasoline, so about halfway through the cup, to buy you time to move away)

6. Back away at least 30 feet ( I was 10 feet away and was almost knocked on my ass because we had used a large CO2 catridge)

7. The catridge must heat to 120 degrees Farhenheit (as it says on the safety label) so it might take 20 to 40 seconds for the result to occur.

There should be a deafening blast with minimal fire but intense pressure and heat. You can visibly see the rapid increase of heat and pressure when viewing the explosion.

IF YOU CHOOSE TO TILT THE CUP, DO NOT STAND ANYWHERE NEAR OPENING. THE CATRIDGE COMES OUT OF THE CUP AT EXPLOSION SO FAST THAT IT CAN NOT BE SEEN. THE CO2 CATRIDGE BROKE THROUGH A WOODEN SHED NEARBY AND WOULD EASILY BLOW A HOLE THROUGH SKIN.

It was dangerous that we had no idea what would happen but this is the reason why I am cautioning you if you choose to perform this process. I cannot say what might happen any closer than 10 feet.

The Cup will most likely not be too damaged (if steel) and will probably be reusable.
