I often have many expiriences of dejavu and i was wondering if anyone had any theories about how it occurs. I have heard some pretty out there theories and they always interest me so I just wanted to see how you guys felt about it?

I think there are different types of deja vu-- that "feeling that you’ve been someplace before" when it’s like the first time that you know of.
Here are a few examples of when and why this sensation might strike:
* I think the most common type of deja vu occurs when the two halves of your brain aren’t working entirely in sync. That is, one half of your brain will send the information to your consciousness a bit more quickly than the other half, and when the other half’s info finally gets to consciousness, the delay between those two identical perceptions gives the impression of having been somewhere before.
* Almost everyone has a prescient (predictive) dream every so often-- those of us who record our dreams regularly can attest to this. About twice a week more or less I’ll have a dream which will include details from some encounter or experience that I have LATER in the week. Since I write my dreams down I am much more aware when this occurs. If you don’t remember your dreams well, when this type of deja vu occurs you won’t remember that you dreamed about the experience-- the perception will seem too come out of nowhere.
* If you are fearing or anticipating something a lot-- for example "the big game" or a romantic encounter with a new person-- you’re going to spend a lot of time going over all the possible outcomes of that event in your mind. If you have enough time to obsess about the upcoming event, you’ll probably dream about it too. When the event finally occurs there are bound to be some similarity between it and your obsessional dreams-- but again, you won’t really remember the dream.

Yeah, what I’ve read on this subject is that it is basically your mind fucking with you. Like you will get signals sent to wrong spots, which will give you the feeling as if you’ve been there before.
Then again, like you said, Scarlett does know all.

Fuck, I have deja vu all the time, and i know its from predictive dreams.
a few months ago, i had a dream (completely random at the time) that i was at a local arcade and my uncle was there, and he said he needed to get something for his wife. later when i woke up and remembered i thought it was hilarious, because all the stuff at the arcade is cheap shit, right?
well, his family came into town for christmas (by this time i’d forgotten all about the dream) and he took me and my cousins to the arcade. we redeemed our tickets, were looking at the counter, and he said he should get something for my aunt.
this kind of shit has been happening to me since about sixth grade. its never anything useful or extensive, just stuff like someone saying a certain phrase, or see a person round a corner or something.
once or twice ive gotten confused with someone over whether or not we’d already discussed something, and then i realize i dreamed it.

It’s amazing how many predictive dreams I have. That’s one of the reasons I write them down. I have a predictive dream about twice per week. They are usually not predictive of anything really earth-shattering, but sometimes they are. It makes you feel quite powerless, however, when you dream about or have a vision of something that is going to happen that is like a disaster, and then it happens.

Hell, I get deja vu about 3 times every week. It’s usually realted to school, my friends, or both. Once I told my friend a joke and he laughed histerically. Then a couple weeks later I said did I tell you that joke about (i dont remember exactly) ? And he’s like no.
(Now it going into a conersation paragraph)
"Are you sure?"
"yeah"
so i told him the joke and he laughed the same exact laugh....thats pretty much the only one I remember specifically

While the human brain processes all the information we pick up from our sense’s it takes a split second for it to analyze.
So basically were all living like a split second in the past.
I read that somewhere, its like 5 am so im pretty damn tired and probably quoted that wrong. But it was something like that, and im thinking thats why we get dejavu because our brains maybe analyze some information faster or slower or something.
Or analyzes one part faster than others and then it seems like u already did it.
Sorry if i sound like a fucktard right now im really tired, its hard to explain what im thinking:P
I tried if anyone wants to take something out of what i said.

no it makes sense. a lot of people think that or something similiar, ie, you see something out of the corner of your eye, your brain registers it, then you see it full-on and you feel dejavu. i dont know if i believe this or not but i’m open to it. however, the dreams i was talking about, i definitely dreamed the places and people and the things they siad ahead of time. like the thing with my uncle- i didnt even know they were coming into town when i had the dream, it was completely random.
