The subject of greatest guitarists, is a very touchy subject, but i figured out that out of all the greats, which there are literally to many to name, there are 2 guitarists that are just on a completely different level than anyone else. The two guitarists that no one else is able to touch there level is David Gilmour and of course Jimmy Page. But the things that make them such great guitarists isn’t their speed or technique or any other part of their physical ability at all. Its the way the can make their music just reach out and grasp you soul. No other guitarist i have ever heard can make you feel like Gilmour and Page. Its the ability to just put so much emotion into their music. Its the way they can make you feel what they’re feeling. I know its hard to just pick two greats but I’ve thought a lot about this and there is no other guitarist that can do that like they do. Not Eddie Van Halen, not Dimebag Darrel not even Hendrix himself. That’s 3 of the greatest, fastest and most phenomenal guitarists of all time, but still they just don’t have that way of touching your soul like Page and Gilmour does.

It’s impossible to pick a best guitarist, it’s all in your opinion. Although, Jimmy Page is on my best guitarist list.

As nephrosis said it’s all about prefrence. There’s no greatest they’re all great because they are indivisual. But Jimmy is also number 1 in my book. And Gilmour is phenomenal. As for Hendrix I totalley dissagree he’s right up there with those two. He was all about soul, and he was really no speed demon persay, Page would be considered a shredder next to him. Id’ also like to give an honorable mention to Clapton, he’s so smooth. Listen to any live shit he’s done and you’ll see why even guys like Page and jeff beck consider him a guitar god.

im part of the young generation so id have to say that the best guitarists ive ever seen would have to be Buckethead , John 5, and Slash definitely. i small guitarist from System of a Down is cool too.
