What’re your guys views on Van Halen?
I haven’t heard to much from him but I don’t like him all too much. The only songs I like are "Hot For The Teacher" and "Eruption". Also he supposedly invented "tapping" which I kind of doubt.

I’m feeling the same way. But he isn’t bad at tapping either ;) Then again it’s hard to be bad at tapping.

Ya, I didn’t even know what tapping was it first. I remember I was actually listening to "Eruption" from VH and I was started messing around with my guitar and then I figured out tapping. I thought I invented some "new" technique haha. Ya not that hard to do....but whatever. I wanna some hardcore Halen fan to post in here so we can have a good discussion :)

Eddie did invent tapping, He got the idea when he went to a Zeppelin concert watching Jimmy Paiges Techninique. He like started a huuuuuuuge tapping frenzy. Every metal band had someone doing what Eddie what was doing. But ofcourse Eddie was the best

Name stealer!^^ EVH kicks some ass, Although I don’t agree with letting his fat son be the bassist. His son has only been playing for like 5 months! Although I’ll see them, especially if they have David Lee Roth!

In a magazine I read it said that technically he didn’t invent tapping. Some jazz musician used to do it. But he popularized and made it sound pretty cool. So just ignore my first post.

EVH, DID invent Tapping, kind of like Chuck Berry invented Rock and Roll.
Yeah, people DID it before, but as a one time thing, never as a definitive style. Eddie made it a THING TO DO!
I was VERY fortunate to have seen Van Halen a REAL long time ago, they were on their first real tour as the opening act for Black Sabbath.
It was at the Cape Cod Colosseum in Massachusetts with Festival Seating, which they can’t do anymore.
Because of the seating arrangement and the area in front of the band was standing room with no seats at all, I managed to muscle my way to the front row, just between DLR and EVH.
As good as they were later on. that show was just unforgettable because they were so young and HUNGRY!1 The kicked so much ass as to make Sabbath look a bit lame, and mind you I went to SEE Sabbath, Van Halen was just a Bonus.
They were so high energy and larger than life it was amazing, I wish I had brought my camera with me then, but because of the rowdy nature of the concert I chose to leave the camera in the trunk of the car . . . bad choice. :(
That was a great weekend for me, we were partying and camping at Miles Standish State Park for the weekend, and we went to concerts every day, we saw Yes in the round on Friday night, saw the Sabbath/Van Halen concert on Saturday night and saw the Outlaws (southern rock) at Tanglewood on Sunday afternoon.
MAN that was good times!!

Van Halen may be a revolutionary creator, but the one who filled his shoes afterwards had bigger feet....Steve Vai.
