What are friends for, after all...?

Northern Calif. boy sets friend on fire — twice

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A 12-year-old California boy is under arrest for allegedly setting his friend on fire twice.

The victim, a 13-year-old boy, suffered severe burns to his legs as well as burns to his arms and abdomen.

Fire officials say the two were playing in a tree house Wednesday and filled a balloon with lighter fluid. The balloon broke, soaking the 13-year-old in the fluid.

According to officials, as he started leaving to go change his clothes, the 12-year-old lit him on fire. The victim patted out the flames, but then 12-year-old allegedly lit him ablaze again.

Sacramento Fire Capt. Jim Doucette says he doesn’t know if the suspect intended to hurt his friend or was just being playful.

He was taken to juvenile hall and faces arson charges.

If that’s how he treats his friends, I’d hate to see what he does to his enemies! [/cliche]

With fire, once is playful stupidity but twice is intentionally harmful.

With stamps, one to 3 times is playful, 4 to 6 times is being annoying, 7 to 12 times bullying.

Geography class 4th year high. I was trying to place a huge stamp of Australia neatly on the page of a note book but the guy next to me kept bumping my elbow and smearing the stamp. On the twelfth bump and smudge I stood up and punched him in the side of the head with 6 quick punches that bounced his head onto the table. I make that 12 blows to the head: equality. The fucker never came near me after that – ever.

^^^ LOL.

I was thinking about this just now while observing my neighbors’ children "having fun".

Actually, though--these kids seem like they NEVER really have fun. They seem sort of pissed off most of the time, even when playing with any of their thousands of expensive toys. On the occasions I observe them directly "at play" (notice how I put the words "play" and "fun" in quotes?) it seems more a celebration of frustration and lack of ability to communicate meaningfully with any other human being than anything remotely resembling a good time. (And you know, I’ve been to some pretty strange parties where the definition of "fun" is tested to its limits. I can accept that some guy’s "fun" might involve having his nuts nailed to a plank while someone else watches, but in any case there’s some coherence to the goings-on--it’s never a bunch of guys chasing another guy down and nailing his nuts to a plank while he struggles to get away.)

They will, for example, start messing with some other person, like a neighbor (or me), or some helpless animal like a dog that’s tied in a yard.

This will go on for awhile until the noise--often including the squealing/barking of the animal that’s being tormented--alerts a grownup (besides their parents, for whom they have absolutely no respect).

Once the adult takes any notice of their bizarre behavior, they will immediately run and hide like the little cowards they so surely are. After awhile they will become self-conscious and, since they don’t feel safe exhibiting aggression toward someone who is watching them, they will start to wreck each other’s stuff, or in the absence of toys/pets/vehicles, each other. No shit--I’m serious.

They will literally like run around screaming incoherently and hitting each other with sticks until one of them gets hurt and then they will all get really pissed off and/or start crying.

That was like the first thing I thought of when I saw this article: "Oh... that’s just like my neighbor’s kids!!"

I’ve already had the pleasure of seeing one of these kids get hurt really badly on a little dirtbike while he was showing off. (There have been other injuries, but that was the best one to date.)

Having one of them set another one on fire is something I could see happening--that I sort of HOPE I see happening. (Oh, of course I would call 911--what do you think I am? Some sort of MONSTER...?)

:D
