The oil price crisis: Not so difficult to understand

[On May 21], the Senate Judiciary Committee summoned top executives from the petroleum industry for what Chairman Pat Leahy thought would be a politically profitable inquisition. Leahy and his comrades showed up ready to blame American oil companies for the high price of gasoline, but the event wasn’t as satisfactory as the Democrats had hoped.

Not surprisingly, the petroleum executives stole the show, as they were far smarter, infinitely better informed, and much more public-spirited than the Senate Democrats.

Its the damn EPA saying that we can’t go and get any of the oil in Alaska. The US has so much oil in both the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska, yet we are not allowed to touch it because of the EPA restrictions.

The way I see it, these animals have lived for 2000+ years, without any help from the government that needs to "Save the animals." We go get the oil, the animals can stay, or they can just migrate to another area.

How long are we really going to be willing to pay $4.00 and up, just to save some damned birds.

People should switch to electrics. if everybod had a solar array on their roof and a fully electric vehicle in the garage those environmentalists will have no more fodder until the next retarded thing. besides geting them to shut up, electrics are actually cheeper in the long run. and they make good street racers :P

You say that, but I figured it out. Well for the GEM electric vehicle at least.

Car
- Spend about $3000 a year on gas.
- Can drive on any road/highway
- Get there faster
- Tow trailers
- Etc.

Electric Vehicle (Well the GEM at least)
- Spend $7000 every 2-3 years on the main battery (No it doesn’t run on normal 12V car batteries)
- Limited to roads with speed limits under 35 mph
- Cannot tow trailers, limited weight capacity

Also, the solar panel idea is a good one, but they do not produce even near enough power. My uncle has them across his entire roof of his 4000 sq foot house (I don’t know the exact area of the roof), yet it only provides enough power to run his pool filter, heater, a/c for the house and on a good day, the garage.

Sorry, I wasn’t trying to put you down, I just was stating what I knew and have found out. However, I do agree with you on the Environmentalists just trying to find something to complain about. Its getting to be ridiculous how everything we do will hurt the environment, and therefore get banned at one point or another.

Example: Today I went with my father to go clean and wax the boat. While we were there I asked if we should put any "Liquid Speed" on the bottom of the boat. Liquid Speed was a product that people would put on the bottom of their watercraft to make it less resistant to skimming on the water. Essentially a lubricant for a boat’s keel. Anyways, the company guaranteed an increase of 3 mph on your craft, and it actually did work. In addition it dramatically helped gas consumption rates. This wasn’t just another gimmick of a product that would never work. So I come to find out the government (EPA specifically) shut the company down because the chemicals in the stuff was deemed too dangerous to wildlife. Of course they shut it down, it worked. In today’s energy crisis, wouldn’t it be a little better to have a product that reduced gas consumption than something that might hurt a small portion of wildlife. Like I said before, the world will survive, it has for thousands of years with out government intervention.

with todays batteries you don thave to get a new one for at least 10 years, bare minimum. why on Earth would it be limited to under 35mph? even the EV1 of the late 80s, quite possibly one of the crappier electrics, could do an easy 70 on the highway. Now, as far as towing thats where electrics have everything else beat for one reason: torque. motors have 100% torqe at 0rpm so I dont know what kind of vehicle you have in mind at all. as for the solar panels, you say "only" the pool filter+heater+A/C+garage. thats alot of stuf it you think about it. heating water?? thats uber wattage. im not trying to put you down either. just sharing what I know.
