ok,
So yesterday I was lost in the woods with my two friends for 3 and 1/2 hours. It was sort of a swampy area so there where MANY mosquitoes (sp?). So we got lost and wound up by some flipped over car deep in the woods. The mosquitoes where eating us alive...so we decided to make a fire to keep the bugs away. I had 1 lighter and some leaves.
We took the leaves and put them in the middle of the trail (but they where only the ones from the top, because ones underneath the top layer where wet. We put them in the trail because we didn’t want to start a forrest fire. So we made a pile and after a few trys to get it lit,we had it lit...and it did not last long because the leaves burnt mighty fast...but while it was burning I stood in front of the smoke (it was blowing in my direction) after getting the smoke on me, I had no troubles with mosquitoes for the rest of the time.
We finally found the fort that we where back there looking for...I took a ...and then my friends started to complain of bugs again...so we gathered alot of sticks and put them in a pyrimid form in the fire pit that already existed at the fort. We found some newspaper there, so after we built the small pyrimid, we stuffed some crumpled up newspaper underneath to get it started. I light one news paper ball on one side of it and then I lit the one on the opposite side...after a while it became pretty big...chest high for me (i’m 5’8).
So we got under the tarp shelter...when...my friend shows up there...in the middle of the woods (well it was his fort). He shows up and tells us how to get back, and he also assisted us in putting out the fire (had no water) so, we smothered it with a large peice of wood and then finished it with a cooler...then I proceded to stomp out what was left lit.
He rode off on his quad and we took the directions to get back...and...getting lost out there sucked...I guess this wasn’t too helpful, because most of it is common knowledge...I just wanted to contribute to this group a little bit.
