can anyone tell me what the best material for chain mail is?
I really want to make myself a mail shirt, once I do I’ll post an egg about it and test it with my weapons.

type how to make chain mail into google, theres a few sites with instructions. And there are already eggs on how to do it so it wont be anything new. I think the recommended material was steel fence wire but i dont know what thickness. Also unless you weld each individual ring shut (would take freakin forever), its no good against weapons, though it would probably be alright against slashes, but against stabs useless because the rings would just get bent open.

this one gives alot of detail and pictures of the best wires and how to make the rings, but leaves out alot of the weaving:

but this one has the best step by step instructions of the actual weaving process. Conincidently there was a c/p egg of this: http://users.frii.com/dnorris/maillearmor.html

I think stainles spring steel is the best material, but making a chain mail is really hard, and nearly not finishable with common material, and also veeeery expensive.

And, buying make-at-home kits isnt that good idea, because those rings are most of all cases way to big, and that looks kinda ugly then.

I think buying a ready made chainmail is the best wy to get one, but they can be very expensive too.

Oh and yes, There are many sites wich show you how to make your own chin mail.

(i still want my own, they are so nice, especially for larp)
