Wall Climbing Magnets

Materials Needed:
1. Scrap plyboard - Aprox. a square foot can be less though
2. 1 inch wood screws - 4
3. 1/4\" metal screws - 12
4. 4 inch piece or 2\" by 4\"
5. Faraday magnets out of hard drives - 6 perferably Wester Digital or even better older Maxtors like 1995 and earlier

Ok first off you need to get your magnets. There are 1 in the Wester Digitals and 2 in the old Maxtors. So look at your local used PC shop or garage sales for old, dead, or cheap hard drives. There are hex and star screws in these hard drives. In the Western Digitals there are both but the Maxtors have just hex. Just unscrew the 6-12 screws in the top plate, Westerns have one in the middle of the lable. When you have them out just cut the seal on the side with a knife and take out the magnets. They are mounted on plates, that have a arm between them. Just remove the center screw holdong down the disk with philips and throw away. Then the magnets just come right out when you remove the screws holding them down. LEAVE THE MAGNETS ON THE PLATES. If you remove them its ruined. Ok now cut 4 pieces of square plyboard that can fit your hand and make it a little big. Then cut two pieces of 2\" by 4\" about an inch long ways. Put two 1\" wood screws screws in each side to keep them together, put these about 1/4\" from the bottom of the board on each side. You now have your mounting plates. Sand them now if you want. Now just mount the magnets with your sheet metal screws about touching each other in the middle of the board. You may have to gring down the top of the screws so the don\’t stick out too far. Now test them by sticking them to whatever you want to thats metal. I weigh about 125 pounds, I know i\’m light, but they held my in a doorway so if your bigger just make the plyboard bigger and add more magnets. Now you have a set of wall climbing magnets for whatever you want! I put one of these on my wall and it found a nail and stuck \"see picture above. I hope you can see the pics.
