- Egg Info -

In this egg i will teach you how to connect to IRC Servers and join a channel and create your own channel. I made this egg because alot of people don’t know what IRC is or how it is used, And someone requested that i remake my previous IRC egg into ’How to use IRC’. In this egg i will be using HydraIrc to display how to use IRC. I will be using the IRC server ’UNDERNET’ as an example of how to join a server.
HydraIrc can be downloaded for free from Here.

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Running IRC & Joining A Server

Locate the HydraIRC icon on your desktop/start menu and open it..

Once HydraIRC has opened click the ’New Server’ button located in the top-left corner of the program

In the ’New Server’ box your write the name of your IRC server you wish to join, For the example i will be using UNDERNET but you can find lots of irc networks and channels Here.

Once you have joined the server a ’Channels’ window should pop up, Click the ’Populate List’ button and select a channel that you want to join, i will be using the #Funshack channel as an example.

Click ’Join’...

You are now connected to the IRC channel and can chat with users/pm users using the text box. Congratulations!

Creating Your Own Channel

To create your own channel you find the servers command window (it will say at the top of it: ’ServerName (irc.servername.org) -Nickname- Connected.’
Once you have found it, In the text field write /join CHANNELNAME (channelname being what you want to name your channel obviously)

Once you have created the channel (I made one called #Rotteneggs) You can set the topic(de5cription) of the chatroom by writing
/topic De5cription Sentence Here

*Note* If you leave the channel it will close, It needs a operator in at all times for it to run.

_____________________________________________________________________________________
Some Other Commands
/Op Nickname - This ’Nickname’ an operator of the channel.
/mode #mychannel +s - This makes your channel Secret.
/mode #mychannel +p - This makes your channel Private.
/kick Nickname - This kicks someone out of your room.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

That is all for this egg, Depending on the popularity of this egg i might make a 2nd egg explaining how to use some of IRC’s different features such as Sending files and Receiving files.

H-Dogg Holy shit! It’s 1996 all over again: The Seattle grunge scene had just about reached its zenith, and the computer lab at my university was clogged with people using IRC! Thanks!
